May is Mental Health Awareness Month,
and here at the Sexual Trauma and Abuse CARE Center, we’re honoring it by centering survivors’ mental well-being through awareness, education, prevention and education, and access to resources.
Mental health is something we all have—it shapes how we think, feel, and connect with others. Supporting it requires a whole-person, holistic approach, just like the work we do every day to prevent sexual abuse and respond to the trauma it causes.
When someone is struggling, there are often signs they may need support. These can include changes in sleep or appetite, withdrawing from people or activities, shifts in emotional expression, or behaviors that make it harder to function in daily life. Recognizing these signs is an important step toward care.
Stressful or unsafe circumstances such as housing instability, financial strain, relationship challenges, or experiences of sexual violence can have a profound impact on mental health. Sexual violence is inherently traumatic, and its effects can be deep and long-lasting. No one should have to navigate that alone.
At the STA CARE Center, we envision a future free from sexual abuse and trauma. This month and every month, we remain committed to supporting survivors with compassion, dignity, and the resources they deserve.
If you or someone you know needs support, reaching out can be the first step toward healing. Our 24/7 hotline is available for survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. Reach out to us at 785-843-8985 for support, advocacy, and therapy services.
